The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted everyone’s lives in one way or another. Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones, have had to work on the front line, and have had their livelihoods taken away.
At ASD®, our core value “Give” is deeply ingrained in our culture and motivates us not to sit back idly. As this pandemic developed, we knew that we had to do something. So we started giving back to the communities and people who helped us grow and become the organization we are today.
Thankfully, ASD® was in a financially secure position before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Our systems and platforms are primarily cloud-based, enabling us to transition to working from home easily. Many of our team members already worked remotely or telecommuted several days a week.
The ASD® team has continued working full-time, despite all the hurdles the pandemic has thrown our way. We're very aware of our great fortunate considering the circumstances, and knew we had to help those in need.
To start, ASD® purchased masks for all of our employees from a local, Atlanta-based seamstress. They are washable and reusable, a more sustainable and eco-friendly option compared to disposables. Our team’s safety is still the top priority, and all of the masks are constructed of three layers with a filter pocket for an additional layer of protection. Most importantly, all proceeds go to making more masks for first responders. Our large order should have helped generate many high-quality, reusable, masks for workers on the front line.
Some employees and their families also have a knack for sewing and helped make over 700 masks for people on the front line. The amount of time and material that goes into a donation of that size is just incredible. Still, our contribution efforts don't stop there.
We have had several people make generous donations to local food banks, backpack buddy programs, animal shelters, and churches. Kevin Joy, one of our National Service Consultants, went above and beyond his call of duty and donated money to his local charter school to purchase two chromebooks and hotspot devices for less-fortunate families.
All of these contributions have, without a doubt, impacted the lives of the people and families hit hardest by the current pandemic. ASD® is beyond proud of our team for continuing to embody the Give core value during such challenging times. These selfless acts are commendable and a testament to the true character of our team.
Kevin left us with the touching words, “Helping others shouldn't be a burden but something that is done to show hope for the recipient.”
